Research in Motion’s Play Book Tablet Hacked
Posted December 2, 2011
Three hackers are claiming that they have exploited a vulnerability in that tablet in order to gain root access to the table. If this happens, it could quite possibly damage BlackBerry’s hard-won reputation for their expert security. What this all means is that with root access, the user has permission to alter any program or file on a device plus they can also control hardware functions.
Research in Motion (RIM) is investigating the claim and if it is confirmed they will be releasing a patch to plug the hole. The three hackers have identified themselves as
Chris Wade, neuralgic, and xpvqs and say that they are planning to release their data within a week. They are planning to use a tool called “DingleBerry.” Data breaches of RIM software is very rare although the operating systems of Goggle’s Android and Apple’s iOS are frequently attacked by users who want to run unauthorized programs.
In July, the PlayBook won a security certificate that stated it was approve for the United States government use and was the first tablet to win this certificate.
